Live Streaming Using the Livebox Encoder and Playout Software

   Livebox is the only streaming server that comes with many inbuilt features that are all needed for the complete live streaming process. Livebox doesn’t stop with streaming, transcoding, and Multi-Bitrate but also performs other role-plays like playout, video mixer, and encoder.
Let’s get started with how to stream using playout and encoder software provided by Livebox.
  • Go to Playout in Mixer and Player software.

  • A Playout window opens, where click Add File to browse video source from your PC and to add video source in your Schedule Playlist.

  • Your video source is added. So, now click Play to play your video in Playout Preview.

  • You can preview your source and also enable and adjust the audio of your video source.

  • Now go to Livebox streaming server.
  • Create your channel in Livebox.
  • Then go to Channel Dashboard under Manage Channels from the navigation menu.
  • In Channel Dashboard click Streaming URL to copy the streaming RTMP URL.
  • Go to Encoder-Mixer-Playout and minimize your playout window and then get into Encoder.

  • A new Encoder window opens, where you can select your playout device in Video Device and then Audio Device, and then enter the copied RTMP URL in the URL tab.
  • Click Preview if you want to preview your live stream and then give Start.          
    Note: Video Device is your device from where you’re taking your source to encode. And Audio Device is also mentioned (Streaming Playout Device) in the illustration as same as video device because we did enable audio settings in Playout settings.

  • Now go to Livebox and click Channel Dashboard, select your channel, and click to preview your live stream in Livebox streaming server.

You are successful in your live streaming using Livebox Encoder- Mixer-Playout software. From the Livebox RTMP server channel, you can start the live streaming on your destinations.

Mixing Streams Using the Livebox Mixer

   The Livebox mixer is one of the dimensions of the Livebox streaming server. With the Livebox mixer, you can mix and match your streaming contents based upon your needs. And also, you can add effects and configurations to your streams by using the Livebox mixer.
  • Login to your Encoder-Mixer-Playout software and open the Livebox Mixer window.

  • Click inside the Add Source area to add your video source. Likewise, you can add two or more sources to proceed with your mixing.

  • A new dialog box Menu_Dialog_Form opens, where click the option Add File to add your local files.
    Note:
  • To add your professional camera or webcam sources, click the Add Live option.
  • To add URL from any other media platforms, click the Add URL option.
  • To add your Livebox playout sources, click the Add Playlist option.

  • Now your sources are added, click the drop-down menu from the Transition option and select the required transition effect and also set time for your transition effect.   transition effects in Mixer software
    Note: Scroll down for more options like adding the scrolling text, PIP option and also alternative audio file for your source. You can also remove your source by clicking the remove option.

  • You can see different transition effects for the added source in the below illustration. There are so many interesting transition effects available for your contents.

  • You can view your source in the preview area. If you want to set or change your background in the preview area, click BG to have the background for your streaming project.

  • After doing all these settings, you can click Save to save it to your local files. In the same way, you can click the option Load to take your saved contents from your local files (This is optional if you are doing it for your future broadcast purpose).
  • The marked arrow portion is to manually set your transition time.

  • Now go to the Livebox encoder and select your Video Device and Audio Device.
  • You can also go to your usual encoder to encode your source.

  • Then go to Livebox and create your channel.
  • From Livebox Channel Dashboard copy the streaming URL and paste it in the Livebox encoder URL bar.
  • To preview your stream, click the preview option.
  • And then click the Start option to stream your contents.

  • After setting all your transition effects and the encoder set-up, come back to your Livebox mixer window to click the content, from where you want the transition to happen.
  • In this given illustration you can see the transition effect between two streaming contents.

Multi-Bitrate Streaming Using the Livebox Playout and Encoder

To conduct Multi-bitrate streaming using the Livebox Playout and Encoder software,
    • Create your channel in the Livebox streaming server.
    • Go to Manage Channels from the navigation menu. Under manage channels, select Multi-bitrate.

    • In Multi-bitrate page, select your channel and Turn On multi-bitrate.

    • Once you turn on Multi-bitrate, the preset options will appear. You can set the required resolution and click Save.
      Note: You also have an option to edit or set your required preset.

    • Once you click save, RTMP URLs for your resolution gets listed below. Make a note of the required RTMP links and click Save.
    • With each URL of definite qualities (resolutions), the player will adjust video quality to that of viewers bandwidth.
      *The first given URL is the RTMP URL of your channel. The remaining URLs are RTMP URLs with resolutions.
Note: The RTMP URL should be used to initiate the live streaming on your server channel. And the other RTMP URLs of resolutions can be used to deliver the same streaming content in different resolutions.

    • After clicking save, give Service Restart to get your changes applied.

Now access your Mixer and Playout software.

Note: Make sure to open the Playout/Mixer window first and then open the Encoder window.

  • In the Livebox Playout software, click Add File to browse video source from your PC and to add video source in your Schedule Playlist.  (You also have the option to add your camera source and YouTube URLs through the Playout software)

  • Your video source is added. So, now click Play to play your video in Playout Preview.

  • You can preview your source and also enable and adjust the audio of your video source.

  • Now on the Livbox Encoder, go to the Advanced Settings.

  • On the Encoder Advanced Settings, click the drop-down menu to set the preset as Multibitrate.
  • You can enable (select) the Preview option after selecting your video device.

  • In Video Settings, enable the video option and then select your Device as Streaming Playout Device.
  • Copy the URLs from the Multi-bitrate settings and enter it in the given URL bars. Then set the bitrate. (Give the bitrate same as the resolution of the RTMP link you have entered in the URL bar)

  • In the Audio Settings, enable Audio and select your Audio Device.

  • After setting up all these options, click on the Start button.

  • Once the streaming is started, it shows the Streaming Started status below the Start button.

  • To view your live MBR streaming status with the definite video quality, go the Livebox Dashboard and check on the player.

  • Then go to Viewers Report to check the RTMP stats of your streaming channel. It shows audio and video bitrate of your channel.

You have successfully done your Multi-Bitrate streaming using Livebox Playout and Encoder. Now you can start to stream the resolutions achieved source on your streaming platform/ social media destinations.

Picture-in-picture Mode (PIP)

    The picture-in-picture is similar to multi-window mode, where you can pin several small source window on the same screen and broadcast it on your channel. To enable this feature,
  • Go to the Livebox Mixer window.

  • Click the option Add Group.

  • A notification Mixer group added appears, and you can click OK.

  • Click inside the Add Source area to add your video source. Likewise, you can add two or more sources to proceed with your PIP feature.

  • Your sources are added. Scroll down under each source control panel to turn on the PIP option.

  • Now click on the term Foreground and once you click on the foreground, the Mixer button is enabled. Then click the Mixer option.

    Note: If the click is done properly then the option Foreground is highlighted in blue.

  • After clicking the mixer option, you can see your added source in the Preview area.

  • You can drag to position your sources or even re-size.

  • Under the foreground option, you can see the number of listed sources. You can tick or untick to have your source in the preview area.

  • Likewise, you can add several groups and switch between those groups. To switch your groups, click the drop-down menu under Active PIP group.

  • Now you can go to Livebox encoder or any encoder of your preference to stream it to your channel.
  • Set your Audio Device and Video Device as Streaming Mixer.
  • Copy-paste your channel streaming URL in the URL bar.
  • And click the option Start to start your broadcast.

You have successfully enabled the Picture-in-picture feature.  Now you can stream the sources with enabled PIP effects on your streaming platforms/social media destinations.

  1. In the Preset option, click the drop-down menu to set your required resolution.
  2. In the Video Device option, click the drop-down and select your video device from where you are going to take through your video source to be encoded.
  3. In the Audio Device option, click the drop-down and select your audio device from where you are going to add your audio to the video source which is to be encoded.
  4. In the URL bar enter your channel RTMP URL, to stream your source to your channel.
  5. Click the Preview option, to preview your video source before it is taken to several destinations.
  6. Once you have added your source, click the Start button to stream successfully.
  7. For other settings, click the Advanced Settings option. You can even carry out Multi-Bitrate streaming by using the options inside the advanced settings, where you can stream for different resolutions all at one time.
  8. To stop your streaming, click the Stop button.
  9. To exit your encoder settings, click the Exit button which is located at the top right corner.

  1. Set your audio and video quality by clicking the drop-down menu provided in Audio Quality and Video Quality option from the top left corner.
  2. Set the background in your preview area by clicking the BG option.
  3. To add your video source in the Schedule playlist,
    • Click the Add File option to add your local files for live streaming.
    • Click the Add Live option to add your professional camera source.
    • Click the Add URL option to add URL from any other media platforms.
    • Click the Add List option to add a list of files.
    • Click the Remove option to remove your files from the playlist.
    • Click the Play option to play your added source in the preview area.
    • Click the Pause option to pause your source.
    • Click the Stop option to stop your source.
  4. You can save your Schedule Playlist settings by clicking the Export option and the same way bring back those settings by clicking the Import option.
  5. Click Add breaks to add intervals between your live streams.
  6. You can also add audio source the same way you do for adding your video source. If you add any audio source, then enable Audio option given below the preview area. Use the scale to adjust the volume.
  7. Always enable Deinterlace to avoid interlacing of your sources.
  8. Enable CG Editor and then click the CG Editor option to add edits like the ticker, scrolling ticker, crawling ticker, rolling ticker, date and time to your source.
  9. Once you do all your edits in CG editor, then click Load to save your edits.
  10. Click Extend preview to view your preview in a separate window and in full screen.

Transcoding Using the Inbuilt Playout and Encoder Software

Adaptive bitrate streaming (Transcoding) is available only in the higher-end versions of Livebox.

  • Create both output and input server channels in Livebox.
  • Then go to Manage Channels from the navigation menu under which click Transcoding.

  • A Transcoding page opens up. Under Select a Channel, select your Input channel.

  • In Output Channels, select the channel where the video has to be transcoded. Then give Turn on near transcoding.

  • Once you give a turn on, the new options for transcoding show up, where you can set the Preset. And then click Save.
    Note: Both the Transcode Output URL and Transcode Embed Code are generated by Livebox.

  • After clicking save, give Service Restart to get your changes applied and to start off with your transcoding.

  • Then go to Livebox Playout software and click Add File to browse video source from your PC and to add video source in your Schedule Playlist.

  • Now go to Livebox streaming server.
  • Then go to Channel Dashboard under Manage Channels from the navigation menu.
  • In Channel Dashboard click Streaming URL to copy the streaming RTMP URL of your Input Channel.
  • Go to Livbox Encoder. Select your playout device in Video Device and Audio Device, and then enter the copied RTMP URL in the URL tab.
  • Click Preview if you want to preview your live stream and then give Start.

  • Now go to the Livebox Dashboard where you can check the transcoding quality of your output channel near the bottom right corner.

  • To check RTMP stats of your streaming channel go to the Viewers Report.

  • In RTMP stats it shows audio and video bitrate of both output and input channels.

  • And when you embed the output channel streams on your website, you can copy the Transcode Embed URL to publish the live stream on your website.

Note:  Through the Transcode Embed URL, you can publish the streaming content along with the transcode video quality.

How to Start the Livebox Server when the Server Connection Fails to Occur?

There are times the Livebox server might fail to get connected while trying to login through the browser. And one of the few reasons for the server connection failure is, the service Livebox Server in the Service Monitor might be in the stopped state. In that case, you can easily retrieve your server connections by following the below steps.

  • The below illustration is the case when your Livebox server fails to get connected.

  • So, now type in the URL bar of your browser as instructed. Type: yourdomainname:3021
  • After clicking the enter, you will be taken to your Livebox Service Monitor page.
  • Here you can click Start the Livebox Server if the service is in offline mode. And your connection will be restored in a fraction of second.

How to Start the Livebox Streaming Server when the Server Connection Fails to Occur?

When the Streaming Server service in the Livebox Service Monitor is in the stopped state, then the Livebox streaming server fails to get connected. And it shows an error occurred notified page when you try to enter your server domain. In that case, you can easily retrieve your streaming server connections by following the below steps.

  • After clicking the enter, you will be taken to your Livebox Service Monitor page.

How to Troubleshoot when the Mixing/Playout Device does not Appear within the Software Encoder?

While using the Livebox Encoder-come-Mixer and Playout software, when there happens failure to detect the streaming playout device in the encoder video/audio device settings, it is because of the software windows are opened the inappropriate way.

You can easily solve the issue by following the below steps,

  • Close all the opened windows from the Livebox Encoder-cum-mixer and playout software.
  • Open the fresh Mixer/Player window.
  • After adding your source using the Playout device or mixing the sources through the Mixer device, you can go to the Livebox encoder to continue your encoder settings and start the successful live streaming.

Note: While live streaming using the Livebox software, you have to first go to the Playout/Mixer window. And after adding the streaming source, click Play on the Playout (in the case of Mixer it is just enough to add the sources and mix them), only then the device will be detected in the Livebox encoder Video/Audio device settings.
